In 2026, my thesis was submitted to the EAI DLI, (an international academic conference for Design, Learning and Innovation) and was approved for presentation and publication for their 2026 publication. Not only was I the only Purdue Graduate Student to get accepted into this conference, but I was the only person in the United States to be accepted. In this publication, it is titled: Evaluating AI-Assisted Design in Animation Pre-Production: A Human-AI Perception Study.
In December 2025, I graduated from Purdue University with a Masters in Computer Graphics Technology. As a requirement for my degree, I wrote my Thesis titled: AI vs. Human Creativity: A Comparative Analysis of Animation Pre-Production Materials.
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) advances in the creative industries, questions are rising about AI’s ability to compete with human creativity in the animation field. This thesis explored if the Artificial Intelligence of Google Gemini, a widely accessible AI resource, is capable of creating pre-production work that is comparable or even better than to the work of a human, despite its undoubtedly superior efficiency. This was tested in two different aspects of pre-production: Character Design and Environmental Concept Art.
This research aimed to contribute to the ongoing discourse on Artificial Intelligence’s role in creative fields, producing insights into AI’s potential as a creative partner. The findings of this thesis informed industry professionals on the validity of AI-assisted workflows in animation pre-production with character designing and environmental concept art creation.
